Hello and welcome to Boston WebQuest.

 

 

 

Boston is probably known for infamous “Boston Tea Party”. Obviously the people who were just following the instructions on the packet which said» add water”. What was the “Boston Tea Party? And why was it so important?

 

 

 

Warming up.

 

 

 

Write as many words as you can about Boston in 30 seconds.

 

Variation: write what you know about Boston, what you are not sure of and what you would like to know.

 

Activity 1.

 

 Go to the following site to find the information about Boston tea party www.bostonteapartyship.com/History.htm then to activity and to Boston Tea Party Gazette.

 

Read the information and be ready to work with it.

 

 

 

Activity 2. This activity is designed to be a reading race.

 

The class is divided into four groups (A, B, C, and D)

 

Each group will find the answer to their two questions using The Boston tea party Gazette.

 

Once the first two groups have finished go round and check their answers and give the answers to those groups who haven’t finished.

 

Award points to each group: 10 points for the group who finished first with both questions correctly, 6 point to the second team and one point to the other two teams.

 

Questions for the groups:

 

Group A.

 

  1. When was the Tea Act passed?

     

  2. How many chests of tea were on board the “Beaver”?

     

 

 

Group B.

 

  1. On what date was the tea emptied into the harbor?

     

  2. Name three of the “Sons of Liberty”

     

 

 

Group C.

 

  1. Why did Britain need to tax the American Colonies?

     

  2. How many cups of tea could be made from 342 crates of tea on the three ships?

     

 

 

Group D.

 

  1. What kind of shop did Benjamin Edes have?

     

  2. How many chests of tea emptied into the Boston harbor?

     

 

 

 

 

 

 

Activity 3. Each team takes it in turn to read out one of their questions. The other 3 teams race to find the answer in the text. The team to find the correct answer first is awarded 2 points.

 

 

 

Activity 4. Ask students to write their own questions to the text or if the group is advanced enough ask the groups to make a display showing the timeline of events leading up to the Boston Tea Party.
